HOW THE FINDER WORKS

Methodology

The finder is not a physics calculator and does not claim to identify one perfect rig. It stores evidence-backed starting profiles for a species and method, then adds conservative adjustments for bait bulk, fish size, cover and flow.

Evidence standard

Each profile must have at least one identifiable published source. Stronger profiles use multiple sources or a recent specialist source with explicit tackle details. The database stores source links and a review date.

What changes a recommendation

• Method: pole, feeder, leger and float fishing put different loads on tackle.
• Bait: hook gape has to suit bait size.
• Flow: river current and feeder weight increase strain.
• Cover: weed and snags justify stronger tackle.
• Fish size: specimen fish can justify stronger line and hooks.

What the finder deliberately avoids

It does not publish unsupported combinations, pretend a line diameter is interchangeable across every brand, or override fishery rules. It also avoids generating a separate thin page for every possible selector combination.

Review cycle

Profiles should be reviewed at least annually and whenever a source is materially updated. Current review date: 2026-09-22.

Legal and fish-care context

The site links anglers to current GOV.UK rules because national and regional byelaws, rod-licence requirements and fishery rules take priority over generic setup advice.
